Going Green?

That's great! You want to reduce your impact on the environment, there are a lot of ways you can get started, but don't you want to make sure you get the best "bang for your buck?" Or in this case the best bang for your solar panel, or organic mulcher?

There is a TON of information on "going green" available. Here at impactstats.com we're pretty unbiased when it comes to ways to reduce your impact. We always try to go with whatever has the biggest impact.

With all the information out there, a lot of it is false information, and that's where we can really help. We do in depth analysis of green tech, the real impact it has, and how it affects your overall impact in the long run. After all, you don't want to waste time and money working towards reducing your impact on the environment, only to find you you're actually making things worse for the trouble! In fact, here are just two of the biggest misconceptions in "Going Green"

CFL's:

(Compact fluorescent light)  CFL's have harmful gasses in them, cost 4 times as much as incandescent bulbs, require more energy to produce, and take up more landfill space when not recycled properly compared to regular light bulbs. CFL's are actually WORSE for the environment than regular light bulbs.

And the big one...Recycling:
We know,..it sounds insane but recycling in almost all cases is actually MORE damaging to the environment than just throwing things away. When you factor in the work, machinery, gasoline, electric, sorting, re-manufacturing, etc.. etc.. of recycled goods they almost always consume more energy and create more pollution than just making another one from scratch does. The exception here is metal recycling as it is harder to make new metal than to recycle existing metal into other products. Examples of other recycling methods with a that are less harmful to the environment over the manufacture of new objects, are rare. Most landfills now harvest methane, and do onsite recycling as well. Even the 100% waste garbage gets handled better, thus meaning that landfill is less harmful than before and (ironically this makes most recycling even more damaging by comparison)
